First image from Shrek Forever After!

Posted by Jack On November - 25 - 2009

The first picture from the fourth sequel in the Shrek adventures has been released by USA Today! Shrek Forever After is the first film in the franchise to be made in 3D, and a trailer will play before James Cameron’s Avatar in theatres.

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are all back, with new voices Kathy Griffin and Kristin Schaal starring.

Like a typical franchise, the  sequels in the franchise maintain lower reviews than the first. Head of Dreamworks, Bill Damaschke, promises, “All that was loved about Shrek in the first film is brought to the final film,”

I finally got around to seeing “Where the Wild Things Are” today. I don’t know what took me so long, I absolutely loved it. The simple but effective cinematography was beautiful to look at and Max Records’s (Max) performance called back many memories from when I was a kid (Okay, I was kind of a strange kid). “Where the Wild Things Are” is one of those rare films that I think both children and adults will love, and it certainly does not have any of the low-brow cheap laughs I’ve come to expect from most children’s films these days.

Anyway, surfing around this great world wide web of ours after the film I came across some interesting footage from a while back, way back: 1983 to be exact. Before Warner Brothers made “Where The Wild Things Are”, Universal had the rights. Before Universal, Disney had the rights and in 1983 they made a short test film with traditional animated characters with computer animated backgrounds. Directed by John Lasseter this short test gives us an idea of what the scrapped animated version might have looked like.

‘Partly Cloudy’ 30 second clip and Peter Sohn interview

Posted by Travis On April - 25 - 2009

Animation World Magazine has a 30 second clip from Pixar’s upcoming short film ‘Partly Cloudy’ which explains the mystery behind where storks get babies. Check it out here.

They also have a pretty cool interview with Peter Sohn who directed the short.

BD: Talk about the pitch and how it went from there.

PS: The original pitch was just as I explained: There’s the world of storks that deliver babies, but where do they get these babies from? And my answer was obviously the clouds. And I had done some drawings of these cloud characters — taking some photos and Photoshopping eyes and a nose in and then having some birds all flocking up to the skies. I pitched this story of a smaller gray cloud that [lived below and] made some of the dangerous babies. And I showed John these images and he touched on one of them and said let’s start developing this one. And that was close to a year-and-a-half ago and it’s been a really interesting learning experience for me. Obviously, this is my first [short]. It really is like raising a baby. I felt very much like Gus during this thing — making something and wanting people to like it.

‘Partly Cloudy’ will be playing with ‘Up’ which hits theaters on May 29th. Be sure to post your thoughts and comments below.

I’m fairly excited for ‘Coraline’, I’ve never read the book but from what I’ve seen from the trailers it looks fantastic.

Over at Collider they have two nice behind the scenes videos to tide you over untill Febuary 6th (North American release, Europe and other regions will have to wait a bit longer).

‘Coraline’, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, is directed by Henry Selick and stars Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman.

New ‘Coraline’ trailer

Posted by Travis On January - 29 - 2009

There’s an amazing new trailer for Neil Gaiman’s ‘Coraline’ directed by Henry Selick.

‘Coraline’ stars Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, and John Hodgman. It hits US theaters on February 6th.

I’m very excited about the amount of ‘darker’ children’s films which are coming out this year. (When I say children’s films, I’m not saying that adults won’t love Coraline I’m sure they will- my point is this is a film for the whole family that the parents won’t fall asleep watching).

Jamie Bell & Daniel Craig cast in… ‘Tintin’

Posted by Travis On January - 27 - 2009

Jamie Bell has signed on to play ‘Tintin’ in Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s films by the same name.

Daniel Craig has also joined the ever growing cast of awesomeness. He will be playing the villain Red Rackham.

The Secret of the Unicorn cover The first film (directed by Spielberg) will be titled “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn”. And if the films fallow the books chronologically, the second film (directed by Jackson) will be titled “Red Rackham’s Treasure”.

From Collider

Fourth, Tintin is maybe a trilogy. The press release mentions a potential third film but doesn’t confirm it. That’s right: the economy is so bad that Spielberg and Jackson will have to earn a third movie rather than just asking for it and giving the reason, “Because I’m Steven Spielberg and I’m Peter Jackson.” Jackson’s film will probably be “Red Rackham’s Treasure” since that’s the direct sequel to “Unicorn” (Oh, Wikipedia—you make me look like an expert).

The film will co-star Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook. And by “star”, I mean that they will all be wearing lycra body suits with tiny balls on them because 3D motion capture is neat-o.

This project started out as awesome, and with every press release so far it seems like things have just gotten better. I think this is going to be amazing. Share your thoughts below.
