Captain America Casting Soon and Filming in the UK!

Director Joe Johnston spoke to Sci Fi Wire about his upcoming film, The First Avenger: Captain America.

“We need to cast it soon,” Johnston said. “We have a very short list, but we’re still juggling actors here. I’d say within the next couple of weeks we’ll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope.”

He also said that him and his team are getting ready to film in the United Kingdom.

Shooting won’t start until the end of June, he said, “but we’re getting ready to go to the U.K., it looks like.”

Joe Johnston discussed what he liked about Captain America, saying he’s not a comic-book fan.

“It’s the kind of thing where, while I’m not necessarily a comic-book fan, I think the interesting thing about this guy is that he’s a superhero without any superpowers, basically. He is the epitome of human perfection. He can’t fly and throw tanks around and see through walls and things like that, but he’s strong and runs fast.”

Captain America is said to be filming this year and is scheduled for a July 22, 2011 release. If I can find out exactly where they will be filming in the UK, I will try my best to fly up. I had wanted to fly up and get on the set of The Wolfman, but I only found out they had filmed in the UK AFTER they had packed up. Let’s hope we hear some more information soon!
