New Writers in Talks for Uncharted

Posted by Jack On November - 23 - 2009

According to Latino Review, Sony are looking for new writers to replace Kyle Ward in writing the big screen adaptation to their hit Playstation 3 exclusive game, Uncharted.

“Sony wants writers that are available and it looks like they found them.

If everything goes through, it looks like writing team Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the duo who wrote the upcoming “CONAN” reboot, will get the Uncharted writing gig.

At press time, negotiations are underway and it looks like a deal is imminent.”

A sequel to the game has also been released this year, which could also be seen made into a film.

Stay tuned for more information as this develops.

Gibson on Mad Max 4. Will He Be Involved?

Posted by Vic On November - 23 - 2009

So recently, production on Mad Max 4 has hit full throttle. We recently learned that Tom Hardy would be taking over the titular character from Mel Gibson. I personally would rather this movie never be made. Do we really need another reboot/sequel? Is Hollywood really that low on ideas?

Gibson had this to say about the production:“I was just talking with George (Miller) the other day, he dropped me a line, so you kind of keep in touch with them and see what they’re up to.”

When asked further about Mad Max, Gibson added, “Oh gosh, I don’t know what he’s up to, not with me, I don’t think, man, I’m a bit old and long in the tooth for that number. You need somebody who can get around a bit quicker.”

I’m going to reserve judgment until we see some production stills. Although maybe not involving Mel isn’t such a bad idea.

Four more added to Thor Cast! (Updated)

Posted by Vic On November - 22 - 2009

The lastest news to come out of the Kenneth Branagh production is hopeful. Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano are signed to play “The Warriors Three”. According to the comics these three will be fighting along side Chris Hernsworth’s Thor.

Also added is Idris Elba. He will play Heimdall, one of Odin’s (Anthony Hopkins) closest servants.

This cast  just keeps building and building!

Update: Natalie Portman was recently quoted as saying Kat Dennings has also joined the cast. There is no word on who she’ll play however.

John Hillcoat Talks ‘The Road’

Posted by Jack On November - 19 - 2009

Australian filmmaker John Hillcoat had the chance to speak with ComingSoon about his upcoming post-apocalyptic film, The Road. The film is based on Cormac McCarthy’s best-selling novel which follows the journey of a father and his son as they attempt survival is a deserted world. The interview reads:

ComingSoon: I know this got delayed for nearly a year, but did you finish it a while ago and it’s just been done?
John Hillcoat: Yeah, we knew that we had to release this… well, not had to, but the right time was to release it… I mean, there’s no better day than Thanksgiving because that’s what the film’s really all about… not eating turkey, but being grateful for things that we take for granted, rather than a summer movie.

CS: Did you actually finish all the post-production a while ago?
Hillcoat: Yeah, we’ve had long hiatuses. I mean, last year’s release date was always impossible. I always said it was impossible and when they saw the incomplete film they realized, “Hey, we can’t release this.”

CS: How did you first get involved with it? Had someone already been developing it?
Hillcoat: No, no, from the get go I got the manuscript before it was published. Nick Wechsler got me that, he’s a producer in L.A. We then discussed writers and this writer I always wanted to work with, Joe Penhall, I got him on board, then we got the script, then (the book) got published and went on to do all that it did.

John Hillcoat goes on to explain who and what his influences were, talked more about the locations he had chosen and created, and some of the cast, who include Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce.

ET visit of Alice in Wonderland!

Posted by Bogdan On November - 18 - 2009

I figured this might interest you guys as much as it does myself. ET visited some of the set for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and showcases some of the cool looking props and costumes for us. Worth mentioning is just how delicious that food looked on the table! Kidding aside, i’m wondering if the giant sized sculpt of Alice is just a marketing device or if it’s actually part of the film set.

Trailer: How to train your Dragon

Posted by Bogdan On November - 18 - 2009

I’m a bit late on the ball for this one but i’ve noticed a lot of folks searching for this on our site so i think it’s about time we posted it. This really looks like a fun movie and the setup for the 3D, the way it’s used here seems pretty clever. It’s not just things getting thrown your way that are the big deal here but the environment itself takes a big part of the experience, getting you even more immersed in the adventure. I gotta admit, the animation looks just plain adorable and so does the story specially the relation between the boy and the dragon.

J.J. Abrams talks Star Trek 2 & Mission: Impossible IV

Posted by Jack On November - 18 - 2009

ComingSoon had the chance to interview ‘LOST’ producer J.J. Abrams about his upcoming projects, and whether or not he will be directing the Star Trek sequel.

Q: What’s the status on “Mission: Impossible IV”?
J.J. Abrams: We are working on the script and we have an incredibly cool story. It’s literally being written right this second.

Q: What are the elements that would have to line up to make you direct the next “Star Trek” film?
Abrams: The truth is, the idea of anyone else directing the next “Star Trek” film breaks my heart. I had the most fun ever with these people. But, it’s impossible to know when the script is done. That’s the time to look at it and ask, “is this the right thing for the movie? Is it the right thing for me? My family?” and all that stuff. It’s so hard to know a year out with no script in existance if I should direct the movie. I look forward to making that decision when the time comes.

He was also asked about his upcoming TV series ‘Undercovers’ which is casting now.

Q: What are you able to say about the new series on NBC, “Undercovers”?
Abrams: We’re just casting now. It’s a more wish-fulfilling show. That’s not to say it’s fantasy or anything, but it’s got an energy that I think feels like something I would want to watch, but that doesn’t guarantee that anyone else will. For me, it feels fun. Look at the spy genre I’ve worked in before. While familiar in some ways, it feels very, very different.

Rob Marshall director of “Chicago” and upcoming musical with Daniel Day-Lewis “Nine” has confirmed that he will be directing the 4th installment of Disney’s highly successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strangers Tides”. The film is based on a long ago optioned pirate novel by Tim Powers; “On Stranger Tides” and is set to hit theaters (I could have made a pun about it sailing into theaters but I refrained), summer 2011.
