The Making of The Shining

Posted by Travis On October - 30 - 2009

Halloween is right around the corner, for those of you unfamiliar with this: Halloween is a day when people celebrate their ancestors and holy saints by wearing masks and eating candy (I know it doesn’t make much sense). Anyway to commemorate this Hallows eve, we bring you behind one of the greatest horror films of all time “The Shining”.

It may be the ultimate fly on the wall experience when a director like Stanley Kubrick gives his 17 year old daughter a camera and says “film us making this”. The video below is the full 35 minute documentary directed by Vivian Kubrick from the set of “The Shining”. It’s fascinating to see how somebody like Jack Nicholson acts off set then to see him transform for one of the films most intense scenes.

Check the video out below then tell us what you think.

Official new Avatar trailer online!

Posted by Bogdan On October - 30 - 2009

It’s finally here and embedded below for your viewing pleasure thanks to Trailer Addict! It was about time Fox got the ball rolling with the marketing for this movie. Not that it needs that push, but it’s always better to play it safer than to be sorry when it comes to advertising your movie. Be sure to watch the trailer in HD!

Avatar BTS clip!

Posted by Bogdan On October - 29 - 2009

While reading a story on SlashFilm’s site, i stumbled on a link for behind the scenes footage of James Cameron’s Avatar. I tried uploading this to YouTube but it won’t let me since it automatically detects what the footage it and disables it. I want to thank Trevor for posting it. His post looks to have vanished now oddly enough. For those who were getting errors while viewing this post, i apologize. There seems to be an error with one of the plugins when i was embbeding the video to the site. For now you can download the video by clicking the link below.

Updated the video below with the best version for now until the official release later this week of the trailer.

New Expendables pictures!

Posted by Bogdan On October - 28 - 2009

I was browsing around the web for some new Expendables pictures in hope to find some set snaps of the big three. Bad news is i didn’t find any since it was obviously shot on a closed set as you can read in our earlier story. Good news is i found some “official” pictures, one of which i have seen around other sites before but not the rest. Enjoy them below, sadly this is the biggest i found them. I’ll update this article if i stumble on a set  at higher resolution.

Action trio unite for Expendables scene!

Posted by Bogdan On October - 28 - 2009

Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis will be united on screen for the first time in Stallone’s The Expendables. This past Sunday, the actors finally got together to film their much hyped scene for the film. This was the only missing footage from the film which wrapped filming back in July. Sylvester Stallone wrote and directed the picture staring some of the biggest action stars of past and present. The line up consists of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, with a cameo by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. The plot: A team of the world’s most dangerous and highly-trained mercenaries go on a mission to South America to overthrow and assassinate a powerful, evil dictator and his army, who have been causing devastation, chaos and torture for the last twenty years. The Expendables is currently set for release on August 20th, 2010. You can read the article over at the publicist’s blog linked below.

After Arnold, Bruce and Sly went through the scene a couple of times they all 3 headed off to wardrobe and make-up.  at 8:10am with three cameras rolling the biggest action icons of our time went to work.  I thought it was electric in Brazil when all of The Expendables stepped on set – but today was atomic!!!!  the whole crew was mesmerized as we watched the three of them play off of each other in a pivotal scene that sets up the whole movie.  And while I can’t/don’t want to give too much away I can tell you that Arnold’s character is Trench and Bruce is Church, the scene was shot in an empty church without extras and minimal set dec and it has tension and humor – what more can a girl ask for!  Sly was in top form as a director today and was in total command.  Bruce and Arnold were consummate professionals at all times – we got through the scene quickly without compromise.  In 6 hours we did wide shots, close-ups, turned around…the whole nine yards…pretty impressive.  Very Clint Eastwood.

Oct 27th Releases

Posted by Bogdan On October - 27 - 2009

We’re getting some minor DVD releases for this week. The top ones being Orphan, the third Ice Age and Whatever Works with Seinfeld creator Larry David. I haven’t seen The Tournament yet but i’m hearing good things about it from people. I’m also looking forward to seeing if Orphan is just another let down in the horror genre or one that manages to finally surprise. For more, you can click on either DVD or Blu-Ray and you will be taken to their proper Amazon pages. There you can find info on the disc content and the bonus features available for the various films. As always, browse through their site for other various releases on home video not listed below.

I finally got around to seeing “Where the Wild Things Are” today. I don’t know what took me so long, I absolutely loved it. The simple but effective cinematography was beautiful to look at and Max Records’s (Max) performance called back many memories from when I was a kid (Okay, I was kind of a strange kid). “Where the Wild Things Are” is one of those rare films that I think both children and adults will love, and it certainly does not have any of the low-brow cheap laughs I’ve come to expect from most children’s films these days.

Anyway, surfing around this great world wide web of ours after the film I came across some interesting footage from a while back, way back: 1983 to be exact. Before Warner Brothers made “Where The Wild Things Are”, Universal had the rights. Before Universal, Disney had the rights and in 1983 they made a short test film with traditional animated characters with computer animated backgrounds. Directed by John Lasseter this short test gives us an idea of what the scrapped animated version might have looked like.
