It was bound to happen…

Posted by Travis On February - 28 - 2009

New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes are moving foreword with a squeal to ‘Friday the 13th’ reboot. Not surprising at all considering the most recent film in the franchise has made over $70 million worldwide sense it’s February 13th release.

A few details about the sequil from Risky Business (these details contain some spoilers of the latest film so be warned):

Unlike the sophomore efforts of other franchises, the new “Friday” is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up, those familiar with the project say. Jason Voorhees will be the villain, of course, but the new picture is expected to use elements of the original franchise more as a jumping-off point than as a template.

The reason? The reboot drew from the first four pictures in the “Friday” series, and producers are said not to be keen on the plot elements of the half-dozen movies that followed. And Marcus Nispel, who directed the latest film, is a possible but unlikely candidate to helm the “Friday” follow-up; the director is believed to be fielding offers for movies across other genres….

…Insiders caution that there is no green light and Platinum Dunes and New Line are actively working together on another franchise reboot, “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” which is set to start shooting in two months.

Michael Cera is all ready to get Arrested!

Posted by Travis On February - 26 - 2009

We’re a little late on this one, but I would like to openly proclaim my joy that Michael Cera has agreed to the much talked about ‘Arrested Development’ film.

'Arrested Development' cast photo

From E:
Michael Cera has finally agreed to do the feature film project.
Cera had been the lone holdout among the show’s stars for several weeks. All other Bluths, including Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Jessica Walter, Jeffrey Tambor and David Cross, are already game, according to sources.

So now the whole family’s back on board. And Just as exciting; here’s a quote from Ron Howard from Sunday’s Oscars:

It’s looking very much like we’re going to make [the movie], but we’ve now been asked to stop offering any details. It’s cloaked in a little mystery, but it’s looking good.

Even with all this good news, I won’t be celebrating until everybody’s contracts are signed and they get a shoot date. Still this film has gone a long way from being just a joke from the final episode; (Your may remember when Ron Howard tells Maybe that he does not see the story working as a TV show, but maybe as a movie).

If you have never seen the show, I highly recommend you drop whatever your doing RIGHT NOW and go rent the first season. It’s one of the most original and funny shows I have ever seen.

Gore Verbinski set to direct ‘Clue’

Posted by Travis On February - 25 - 2009

Through a deal with Hasbro, Universal has acquired the rights to adapt several of the most popular board games in history including, ‘Monopoly’, ‘Candy Land’ and ‘Clue’ are among several others.

Risky Business Blog reports:

Universal is moving several spaces up the board with “Clue,” a big-screen take on the classic game, and is in final negotiations with “Pirates of the Caribbean” helmer Gore Verbinski to direct and produce.

The project comes as part of a partnership between Universal and Hasbro to develop iconic board games into movies. A number of other properties have big names attached to them, including “Candyland,” which has Kevin Lima attached to direct and Etan Cohen to write, and “Ouija Board,” which Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is producing. And Ridley Scott is on board to produce “Monopoly.”

Gore Verbinski has proved himself a very capable and diverse director able to produce big box office numbers with films like ‘The Ring’ and the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films, so I’m interested to see how he’d handle this. But first, perhaps Bioshock?

Tell us what you think below.

‘Green Hornet’ has found a director…

Posted by Travis On February - 25 - 2009

…and his name is: Michel Gondry. Yep it seems that the director of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ has stepped in to helm the Seth Rogen vehicle. According to the Hollywood Reporter:

Michel Gondry is in negotiations to direct “The Green Hornet,” Columbia’s big-screen treatment of the classic crime-fighting hero being portrayed by Seth Rogen.

Stephen Chow had been tapped to direct but dropped out over creative differences. He is still expected to co-star as Kato, the Hornet’s trusty sidekick and chauffeur.

Since Chow’s departure, the project has been the subject of speculation that it was sliding into development hell, but the studio is intent on making the feature one of its 2010 tentpoles

Arnold & Trejo become Expendables!

Posted by Bogdan On February - 24 - 2009

For this already explosive 2010 action movie, the cast was already golden enough to please every die hard action fan out there. Now we get this glorious news on not one but two BIG casting additions. They are none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Trejo. You can read the whole article below:

“Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Trejo have both been announced as joining Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables. To that I can only say… sweet. And to that I can only add… it’s not too late Jean Claude! Apologize for your egotistical idiocy and get your ass to South America! Anyway…

As exciting and awesome as this news is, be aware that Schwarzenegger’s role is reported to be strictly a cameo and he’ll be playing himself, the Governor of California. Apparently Stallone’s character had some dealings with the man previously and their paths cross again before the gang of rough and ready, action hero mercenaries head south of the border to take down the evil dictator. Latino Review reports that Trejo, known best for the faux Grindhouse trailer Machete, is also joining the film and will most likely be playing one of the dictator’s henchmen.

If you’re keeping score on Stallone’s incredibly awesome cast, it currently looks like this. Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Forest Whitaker, Mickey Rourke, and Eric Roberts (who replaced Ben Kingsley). Stallone’s roster continues to impress, and reportedly he’s revisiting the script to ensure the characters and story live up to the action potential and star power. So again I say… Jean Claude Van-Damme!”

Kevin Williamson signs for ‘Scream’ trilogy?

Posted by Travis On February - 24 - 2009

We know ‘Scream 4′ is going foreword; Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that, and yes Kevin Williamson the writer of the first two ‘Scream’ films is writing it!

From Bloody Disgusting:

When asked if he is involved at all in the new film’s tory, he explained, “I don’t know his ideas at all. But they have made a deal with Kevin [Williamson] to write.”

In our exclusive story, we reported that Williamson’s script will be a younger version of the SCREAM movies and that offers were made to David Arquette, Courtney Cox Arquette and Neve Campbell to play cameos.

Some more interesting news popped up over at Ropes of Silicon which states that Kevin Williamson has signed for not just one new ‘Scream’ film but 3! ROS even says that they have no way of confirming the legitimacy of this however it’s pretty cool to speculate about.
