Universal made a deal with Robert Ludlum’s estate giving them the rights for more Borune movies. A fourth film is already going foreword written by George Nolfi, and it is currently set to hit theaters summer 2010. It will be interesting to see how this 4th film turns out, ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ was the last film to be based on a book written by Ludlum. I’m not sure if there are plans to adapt one of the two Bourne novels written by Eric Van Lustbader or just write a story from scratch (which is pretty much what they did with the second two films that really had very little to do with what happened in the books).
Not only does the deal between Universal and Ludlum Entertainment make way for more Bourne films it also allows for the development of Ludlum’s other books. Over 25 of the authors spy-thrillers have never been turned into films so if Universal plays there cards right they could also pull the rights for a lot of adaptions.
Both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are attached to the fourth film.
