Ahh! ‘Tintin’ what has become of you?!?

Posted by Travis On September - 20 - 2008

Huge news about the upcoming Tintin franchise which is to be helmed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson;  Universal pictures has denied funding for the film!  Yes you read that correctly, one of the worlds biggest movie companies has turned down financing for a film helmed by two of the worlds biggest directors!

Both Spielberg and Jackson have directed as well as produced some of the highest grossing, as well as innovative, films ever.  So for these guys to team up it’s automatically like a cinematic dream team. But alas Universal had something different in mind, now I don’t want to paint Universal as the bad guy. I can see where they are coming from while I’m sure any Spielberg, Jackson collaboration would bring in box office numbers in the high hundred millions if not breaking over a billion world-wide. It’s still a risk, the movie industry is risky and on this project ‘Tintin’ would have to take in over $425 million before Universal would even see a dime!

Bottom line- Tintin will get made if both Spielberg and Jackson want it to be, there’ll be a lot of haggling maybe some shopping (for a different financial backer) but trust me this project is far from dead this is just a set back, Paramount has already put up a substantial amount as well as Weta.
